Jo Daviess County Country Fair Charities Awards Grants


Twenty-seven Jo Daviess County not-for-profit organizations received a total of $45,868.70 in grants at the 12th annual Jo Daviess County Country Fair Charities, Inc., grant presentation held on Thursday, June 18 at the Galena Elks Lodge. Jo Daviess County Country Fair Charities is a completely volunteer not-for-profit organization with its main goal to facilitate and assist charitable causes throughout Jo Daviess County.

The money used to fund this year’s grants was made available from the proceeds of the 2014 Galena Country Fair. In addition to the grant monies distributed, donations in the amount of $15,505 were given to churches and organizations who supplied workers for the 2014 fair, the city of Galena received $10,000 and $500 each was donated to the Galena Police Department and the Galena Area EMS. This translates to $72,373.70 in grants and donations returned to benefit residents of Jo Daviess County.

In the 12 years of the organization’s existence, JDCCFC has awarded a total of $807,259. Those organizations receiving grant awards include:

Warren Area Ambulance Service–$2,991.75 for stair chair upgrade.

Galena Center for the Arts–$1,800 for Friday movie series for children.

East Dubuque Fire Department–$1,930 for paramedic equipment upgrade.

Jo Daviess County Sheriff ’s Mounted Patrol–$1,000 for portable radio purchase.

Stockton Police Department–$800 for Stockton/Warren Police Department Explorer Post 105.

Galena Elks Lodge–$2,000 for Christmas food basket program.

Warren United Methodist Church–$1,000 for assistance program.

Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office–$2,694 for radar unit replacement program.

The Workshop, Galena–$3,400 for industrial water softener replacement.

Stockton Ambulance–$1,620.95 for infant/pediatric cables for monitoring pulse ox and IV training arm.

Kiwanis Club of Galena–$2,480 for Tot Lot Park upgrade.

Galena High School Key Club–$1,112 for Tot Lot Park upgrade.

Caring Neighbors Food Pantry, Warren–$2,000 for milk and food for families.

United Churches of Galena Food Pantry–$3,500 for children’s backpack program.

Stockton Ministerial Association–$1,500 for housing voucher program.

Elizabeth Community Ambulance–$1,000 for emergency pager update/replacement.

FHN Family Counseling Center, Galena–$1,250 for Big Brother/Big Sister program.

Galena Community Garden–$325 for seeds, plants and organic products.

Warren Fire Department–$1,050 for hand tool purchase.

Galena Police Department–$1,800 for Taser electronic control devices.

Stockton Police Youth Club–$1,000 for youth club program.

Jo Daviess County Health Department–$1,950 for child restraint seats.

Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth, and St. John’s, Hanover–$1,200 for emergency assistance program.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena–$2,000 to assist destitute individuals program.

St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena–$2,000 to assist destitute individuals program.

Stockton Fire Department–$1,715 for pager and radio upgrades.

The 2015 Galena Country Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11, in Galena’s Grant Park. The fair features over 150 artists and artisans offering original and handcrafted work. In addition, the fair includes a farmer’s market, children’s corner featuring games and prizes, numerous raffle prizes, a wide variety of food and beverages and live musical entertainment both days.
